Hi Chris.  We met when you were in Wichita about a month ago.

I have used your comments a number of times in discussing what it is Optimist do.

I particularly liked “we save lives and improve self-esteem.” I appreciate your style of leadership.

Perhaps you saw the “discussions” with the presidential candidates held at Columbia.  The discussions centered on public service, serving others, helping others more than one’s self.  Sound familiar?  When both McCain and Obama were speaking, neither one mentioned service clubs such as Optimist.   They are not aware of what we do nor are they aware of what our sister organizations do. Their staffers are not aware we exist.  They are aware of religious bases organizations.

Now is the time to remind our membership we provide an opportunity to serve our communities. Now is the time to write to our Presidential candidate of choice and inform them of Optimist.  Now is the time for our national leadership to contact McCain and Obama and let them know just what it is we do to serve our communities.

We don’t take city money; we don’t take county money; we don’t take state money; we don’t take federal money.  We fund the variety of projects we support nation wide with work projects and money out of our own pockets…rather novel isn’t it?

This time is our greatest opportunity to recruit new members. People want to serve their communities.

Marian Wright Edelman once said, Service is the rent we pay for living.

Time to pay the rent.!!
